Korean Background:

​Well my story with Korean began during the summer after high school, during a workcamp in 2008, there were two Koreans and hearing them speak their language made me realise (like for Japanese) that I like the sound of it. I learnt a few words during those 3 weeks and when the camp finished one left me a note in Korean. Being curious I wanted to understand a bit, even if just a word. And I did! After 2 hours analyzing the alphabet and the words, I understood the word 굳바이 (goodbye written in Korean letters). I was so thrilled that I decided to try learning it. Unfortunately I soon gave (1 month later) in favour of Japanese. But in the summer 2009, I learnt that the Korean Culture Center gave evening classes for only 30€ a semester so I try getting in the Intermediate class (to avoid re-learning the hangeul), which I did. After about a month feeling left behind and not understanding much, I caught up with the others and soon the class was slowing me down. 

In the summer of 2009 I left for Korea for 2 months and a half alone. I had planned a bit of volunteering but most of my choices were made on the spot and I had nothing too precise. I spent 2 weeks in the countryside living in a school with kids who pretty much only spoke Korean and doing farm work (WWOOFing). During a workcamp (in the middle of my trip), I met 4 Koreans with whom I got on really well and one's father had an apartment he wasn't using so I stayed there (for free!) for more weeks and canceled my other plans. I went everyday to school with then and even went to a few classes (spanish and Japanese taught in Korean). It was incredible. The best time of my life maybe. 

​However, when I came back, I started feeling satisfied by my level. I could have any everyday conversation with my friends in Korean and my level was sufficient. So I started slacking. For a while, I was just using korean to talk or chat with my friends and watch dramas and movies. 

Since then, I have obviously improved but I have never worked seriously again on Korean for a long period of time (and I mean REALLY seriously). So I have decided that finally in 2014, I would get out of that Intermediate phase and start using more advanced grammar patterns and more precise vocabulary.
